Fatal or serious road traffic collision
Support for bereaved families following fatal or serious road traffic collisions
If you have been affected by a serious injury or fatal road traffic collision, there is a strong support network available.
If the incident is being treated as a crime such as dangerous driving or driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs then the Victim Care and Advice Service will provide you with professional, personalised and independent support to asses the support needs of those who have been affected by their loss. A Victim Care Officer will meet with you to discuss any concerns and help to obtain answers to any questions that you may have. We will provide you with emotional and practical help.
The national charity Brake also provides support for those affected and for families that have been bereaved and Brake can be contacted on:
- Brake www.brake.org.uk
The Brake helpline provides support for UK residents in the following circumstances:
- if you have been bereaved or seriously injured in a collision
- if you are caring for someone bereaved or seriously injured in a collision
- if you are a professional, such as a police officer, teacher or health worker, wanting advice about how to help people affected by a collision
